CHRISTMAS TREE
Description from Beautyforthewin.com:
"I lit up like a christmas tree, Hazel Grace."
A pine-green lights up like a christmas tree with multi-colored sparkles. Hopefully the sparkles will help keep those tears at bay when you think of this quote.
This product is vegan and not lip-safeIngredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Mica, Chromium Oxide, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Magnesium Silicate, Carnauba Wax$1.50 for one sample baggie containing about 1/4tsp. of product, $6.00 for one jar containing about 1tsp. of product.
Christmas Tree is a satin deep forest green with olive tones and multicolor sparks.
This shade is very pigmented. With just one or two swipes I can reach full opacity. The shadow is smooth and silky, not gritty at all.
Christmas Tree is a super sparkly pigment so there is a bit of sparkle fallout during application. After application if you touch the shadow some sparkles will fall off, but this is typical of most sparkly shadows unless you have a practically bulletproof primer. With my primer of choice, Shadey Mineral's Eyeshadow Primer, the sparkles last for a good amount of time.
HOT MESS
Description from Beautyforthewin.
"We are a hot mess"
AS BRIGHT AND SPARKLY AS A PERFECT FIRST TIME, "HOT MESS" IS A BRIGHT LOOK-AT-ME PINK WITH MORE HOT PINK SPARKLES THEN YOU KNEW YOU NEEDED.
This product is not vegan, and it is lip safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Hot Mess is a nearly metallic sparkly, shimmery, satin warm hot pink.
Ooh, I love this color. It is a "look-at-me" pink, a bold color. It would look great applied wet as an eyeliner.
This shadow is smooth and silky without any hint of grittiness.
I did need to pack on the pigment in order to get full opacity, since one swipe just wasn't doing it. Once I did build it up to full opacity it stayed there nicely and didn't fade too quickly.
If you wipe your finger across the shadow you will take off some of the sparks and shimmers, but if you just leave it alone it will stay pretty much looking freshly-applied all day.
Similar: Mars by Tilt/Shift, more red.
Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Carmine, Magnesium Silicate, Carnauba Wax$1.50 for one sample baggie containing about 1/4tsp. of product, $6.00 for one jar containing about 1tsp. of product.

THOUGHTS ARE STARS
Description from Beautyforthewin.
"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations."
A black blue base holds too many blue, white, and gold sparkles. But is there such a thing as too many sparkles?
This product is vegan and lip safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Thoughts Are Stars is a black base with blue shift loaded with as many stars as you'd expect to see on a clear dark night.
I quite like space. I think space is endlessly interesting. According to most modern research, it is not at all what we expected it to be. Things that we never thought possible and that are admittedly absurd happen all the time in space, making the night sky one of the most poetic and profound things I can think of.
This shadow perfectly captures what the night looks like. It is packed with sparkle upon sparkle and it's wonderful. The sparkles do not fall away immediately but stay faithfully throughout the day, so long as you don't touch or smudge them.
The texture of the shadow is smooth since the sparks aren't actual glitter chunks. It is very pigmented and fully opaque.
Similar: Oil Slick by Urban Decay, not as pigmented, not as sparkly.

OKAY
Description from Beautyforthewin.
Maybe Okay will be our always"
Light blue with strong blue iridescence.
This product is vegan and is not lip safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Mica, Ultramarines, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Iron Oxide, Magnesium Silicate, Carnauba Wax$1.50 for one sample baggie containing about 1/4tsp. of product, $6.00 for one jar containing about 1tsp. of product.
Okay is a light periwinkle with blue shift.
This is such a beautiful color. I don't normally wear blues, but I'll make an exception in this case. The shift is very strong and prominent.
The shadow is not incredibly pigmented, you do need to build up the color in order to get it to opacity. Like Hot Mess, once it is opaque it will pretty much stay that way. Since there is no sparkle in this shadow, just a shift, the shimmeriness won't go away once you touch it.

HAZEL
Description from Beautyforthewin.
Me, I was always just Hazel, univalent Hazel.”
A brown glitter reveals an olive and gold duochrome -- far from univalent.
This product is vegan and not lip safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Hazel is a golden bronze with gold and olive-bronze duochrome.
This color is heavily pigmented and very beautiful upon application. The duochrome is vibrant and very prominent. As a liner, this would be magical.
This is one of the longest lasting shadows of the bunch. The shadow tied with this one is Amsterdam, which also doesn't fade even when lightly smudged. This duochrome will last you for a long time.
Similar: Haute Chocolate by Too Faced, more orange, no duochrome, satin finish.
Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Ferric Ferrocyanide, Chromium Oxide, Copper Powder, Zinc, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Silicate, Carnauba Wax$1.50 for one sample baggie containing about 1/4tsp. of product, $6.00 for one jar containing about 1tsp. of product.

AMSTERDAM
Description from Beautyforthewin.
“Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.”
Red-brick like the houses lining the canals of Amsterdam. Turquoise and blue sparkles subtly add a glimpse of the water.
This product is vegan and lip safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Amsterdam is an intense shimmery brick red with sparks, some blue but mostly gold.
Unfortunately there aren't very many blue sparks in this shadow. The sparks that are there are very pretty, just not exactly what BFTW explains. It could of course just be my particular batch, though.
The shadow is mostly smooth but a little gritty, not exactly as smooth as previous shadows. It lasts for a very long time and doesn't even fade or smudge if you rub it gently. There is quite a lot of pigmentation in this shadow as well.
Similar: Cannes by Too Faced, silkier, no sparks, lighter and more yellow; Venus by Tilt/Shift, not as pigmented, more glittery, lighter; Fire Pledge by Blackbird Cosmetics, matte; Murder by My Pretty Zombie, darker, no shimmer, prominent blue sparks.
Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Magnesium Silicate, Carnauba Wax$1.50 for one sample baggie containing about 1/4tsp. of product, $6.00 for one jar containing about 1tsp. of product.

INFINITIES
Description from Beautyforthewin.
“Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.”
Grey base with many purple and pink sparkles.
This product is not vegan and is lip-safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
Infinities is a light purple-gray-taupe with silver, pink, and purple sparks abounding.
This shade is very smooth and pigmented. There is not even a hint of grittiness in this shadow.
The base itself is a taupey purple-gray with sparks mixed in. The base doesn't smudge, but the sparks will fall away if you smudge or rub it. Aside from touching it, the shade and sparks will both last for a long time.
Similar: Homemade Death by My Pretty Zombie, less pigmented, blue sparks.
Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Red #40, Palmitic Acid, Carmine, Magnesium Silicate, Carnauba Wax$1.50 for one sample baggie containing about 1/4tsp. of product, $6.00 for one jar containing about 1tsp. of product.

THIS STAR
Description from Beautyforthewin.
"This Star Won't Go Out"
Named after the charity that this collection sponsors, a brilliant lime green with shimmer and sparkle. Make sure to check out This Star Won't Go Out in the "Causes" page above.
This product is vegan and is not lip safe.
Ingredients list from Beautyforthewin.com:
This Star is a bright celery-lime green with green shimmer and sparks.
Application is very smooth and easy, the shadow is nicely pigmented. There is no grittiness or roughness.
The base of the shadow lasts pretty long, but the shimmer and sparks will smudge and rub off if you try to smudge it. Again, if you leave it alone it will stay very similar to how it looked at first application.
Apparently this shadow is named after a charity that is also being sponsored by BFTW itself. I like charity as much as the next empathetic human, so I'll copy the "Causes" page from BFTW's website and past it here:

THIS STAR WON'T GO OUTSPONSORED BY: THE FAULT IN OUR SWATCHESTOTAL RAISED -- $0.00
from Tswgo.org, via Beautyforthewin.com |
From their website:"This Star Won't Go Out is a non-profit foundation serving families with children diagnosed with life-threatening cancer. Caring for a seriously ill child creates tremendous stress for the family system. TSWGO’s goal is to help families through financial gifts given with no strings attached. These gifts can be used for medical expenses, items needed by the child with cancer, or personal expenses due to the financial strain of caring for a child with cancer.Since its founding in 2011, TSWGO has given out more than 75 gifts totaling $125,000 to help families suffering from financial hardship related to childhood cancer. What is exciting is that our funding is extremely grassroots, initiated and organized by caring individuals and groups of young people from all around the globe who want to make a difference for kids. They purchase bracelets and t-shirts that promote TSWGO, and hold fabulously creative fundraisers—they’ve hosted all-night rocking-chair-a-thons, an 84-mile walk around an English wall, carnivals, bake sales, battle-of-the-bands, head-shavings, and even a 5,000-piece domino art project!TSWGO was established in memory of 16-year old Esther Earl, an avid Nerdfighter and passionate Harry Potter fan. Her online friends and causes met many of the social and emotional needs in her life, hampered as she was by her progressing thyroid cancer. Yet Esther lived life fully, getting involved in social justice issues, loving her friends, her family and cats, and always remembering to be awesome."
CONCLUSION
Beauty For The Win is a pretty new company. It is in its infancy, but it is already producing very good products. Since it isn't technically open yet, the products didn't have proper labels. In the future however, there will be labels.
Laurel, the owner of BFTW, has said that the website should be up and sparkling and ready for business sometime in August, before the end of the month. Keep on a lookout for these products, because they are very, very good.
