Lorac afterGLO Palette Review

3/8/2016: NOT vegan

On the new subreddit /r/youngMUA a user asked me to review this palette and provide swatches, so here it is.

The palette itself is very slim and compact. The outside is glossy, which is beautiful but it attracts fingerprints and smudges.

There is a large mirror on the inside, along with a removable small clear plastic film with a large blue LORAC on it. The smaller blue LORAC is stuck on the mirror.

All colors.

I'm going to consider this half of the palette A, with the top row of colors 1-4 and the bottom 5.

A1 is a matte indigo blue. It's not too vivid, sort of dusty almost. I like using this color to deepen the next color over, A2. It looks good over a primer, but not on its own.

A2 is a lightly shimmery green. This green is more blue-toned rather than yellow-toned. Like A1, this does not look so great without a primer of some sort.

A3 is a shimmery gold. This color looks great on its own, one of the few that doesn't necessarily need a primer. Very lovely.

A4 is a shimmery copper. More brown than a penny, but similar. It looks alright on its own as a subtle highlight, but to get a really good color payoff then use a primer.

A5 is a matte ivory white. It's not exactly pure white, but it's pretty darn close. Nice as a browbone highlight or inner highlight. Difficult to see with or without a primer.

Swatches, as they appear in the palette. These are all over NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk.

This half is B, numbering system is the same.

B1 is matte bluish plum. It's more blue in person, this picture shows it a bit redder. The majority is matte but there is very subtle, small blue glitter throughout. It's only visible if you look very close, though. Like the others, not so great unless over a primer -- in which case, it's great!

B2 is matte caramel. Kind of a boring color. Use a primer.

B3 is a matte orangey coral. Under different lights it appears more yellow, more pink, or more orange. It looks great always, though. Like B1 there is very suble, small gold glitter. It's more visible in this one than B1. Without a primer this color looks like a very pale pastel pink, but over a primer it looks just like it does in the pan

B4 is a dark matte brown. B4 is to B2 what A4 is to A3, if that makes any sense at all. It's nice for defining the socket, or softly lining.

B5 is shimmery light pink. Very pretty color, nice when used without a primer just for small highlights. With a primer it looks like it does here, so more pigmented. This color layered over B3 is gorgeous.

More swatches, again of NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk.

All colors together.

In summary, I'm not super duper thrilled about this palette. I love the colors A1, A2, A3, B1 and B3, which make the palette worth the money for me, but I would really rather this be more pigmented. This is my first Lorac palette, and I was expecting more from such a revered company. None of the colors really look good and pigmented on their own, so I need to use a primer, which is a bit disappointing. I normally use a primer anyway but I always find it a plus if I don't really need to use one.

Still, there are some wonderful colors in here that I love experimenting with. It's not an extremely cheap palette but it isn't that expensive, so I don't regret my purchase.

This is an Ulta exclusive, so you can buy it here.
