REVIEW + SWATCHES
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
Mystical iridescent translucent shadows
Delicate and airy, Ideal for brow highlighting, special effects and channelling your inner pcychic beauty!
The word that MC keeps tossing around in reference to this collection is "iridescence". I can wholeheartedly support their repetition of this word, since all of these shadows are sheer and at first glance not quite 'there'. I think the best thing these shadows could be used for is as highlighters (especially the colors Psychic, Hallucination, Levitation, and Illusion) or over top of other shadows to add depth.
Unfortunately this iridescence works against the shades in that they do not last long at all. Seriously, the stuff will all be gone within 30 minutes. This is without a primer, mind you, so it would certainly be longer if you apply them over primer or even a sticky base (like Glamour Doll Eye's Foil Me or NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk).
The shadows are all silky smooth, albeit not very pigmented. I had to pack on the color to get these swatches to appear as they do, especially the lighter ones. Telekenesis and Teleportation are the most pigmented of the bunch.
As an aside, I think Meow Cosmetics needs a good spell-checker.
PSYCHIC
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
pure white with silver iridescence$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Psychic is a silvery satin, shimmery white.
MC calls this true white, but mine casts a bit of a pink tint. It could just be my skin's natural redness that makes it appear more pinkish than pure white.
For a pale person, this would be a great highlighter. Browbone highlight, inner highlight, or just generally facial highlighting.
Similar: Demons are my Bitches by My Pretty Zombie, more pigmented, less pink; La Croisette by Too Faced, more pigmented, less shimmery and more satin; Champagne Truffle by Too Faced, more purple.
APPARATION
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
white with gold iridescence$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Apparation is a buttery satin-shimmer cream.
This color would also look great as a highlighter, for those of us who have yellowish skintones. As an inner highlight this color is absolutely wonderful, especially paired with Telekenesis.
Also as an aside, this color is listed as Apparition on Meowcosmetics.com but on the sample is printed Apparation.
TELEPATHY
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
aqua with blue/green iridescence$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Telepathy is a satin minty seafoam with teal shimmer.
Honestly one of the prettiest of the bunch. It's such a light and fresh color, applied all over the lid it would be perfect for spring and summer.
Though I don't own it, so I don't list it in the Similar section, this looks to me to be similar to Femme Fatale's Candy Apple.
$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Astral Projection is a grayish light purple with blue shift.
In the pictures above it appears more reddish than it does in reality, but the swatch below is true to person.
TELEPORTATION
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
bright blue with aqua iridescence$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Teleportation is an intense candy blue with aqua shimmer.
One of the brightest of the bunch, the other being Telekenesis. This is also, again along with Telekenesis, one of the most pigmented. It still doesn't last very long.
Similar: Monstrous Industry by My Pretty Zombie, lighter, longer lasting; Shattered by Urban Decay, more pigmented, longer lasting, less shimmer.
LEVITATION
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
soft butter yellow with golden iridescence$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Levitation is an almost tangerine-y buttercream with gold shimmer.
This is another shade that would look great as a highlighter, especially on yellow-toned people with olive skin. It is such a natural color that it looks like just a barely-there highlight.
Similar: La Croisette by Too Faced, whiter, more pigmented, longer lasting; Riviera by Too Faced, more pigmented, longer lasting.
AURA
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
lemon yellow with golden iridescendce$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Aura is a bright light yellow which leans slightly greenish.
This is another color that would look alright as a highlighter, I suppose, though I'd suggest against it since there definitely is a bit of green in this and it would make you look sickly. It is very similar in color to Levitation because of how natural it looks.
HALLUCINATION
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
buff with copper irdidescence
$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Hallucination is a nude with tangerine-y shimmer.
It appears very, very orange in powder form but applied over bare skin it tones down quite a bit. This color, Aura, and Levitation are nearly identical except for the vague underlying color of their respective shimmers. This one is the closest to nude, at least for my skintone.
Similar: Riviera by Too Faced, less tangerine-y, more pigmented, longer lasting.
ILLUSION
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
iridescent petal pink$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Illusion is a light pink with a seemingly light teal shift.
Meow Cosmetics doesn't describe this color as having a shift, so I don't know if the shift I see is an illusion or not -- actually, that would be pretty brilliant if it were really there but they didn't mention it. That's deep.
It looks pretty much nude, except for light pinkiness. I do see a slightly greenish shift, but it could certainly just be my own eyes and surroundings.
TELEKENESIS
Description from Meowcosmetics.com:
peach with orange iridesence$8.25 for one 5gr. jar containing 1gr. of product, $1.00 for one sample baggie.
Telekenesis is a bright marigold with orange shimmer, taking on a more yellowish tone on skin.
Like I stated before, this ties with Teleportation for most pigmented, and longest lasting. These are the only two ways in which the shades are separate from all the rest, these still are fairly sheer and smooth.
Similar: Fluoxetine by My Pretty Zombie, actually a blush, less red, blue shift, longer lasting.
CONCLUSION
I had high hopes for these, but they missed the mark in all honesty. They're pretty, of course they're pretty, but they do not last long at all. I don't really see how I could use these in too many looks.
Meow Cosmetics as a company seems almost lazy. I really hate to say that and please know that I'm not trying to be rude or anything. I just think this because there are many misspellings on their website, along with links that go nowhere or references to a product that they don't sell (at least, not anymore). I also can't find any ingredients lists anywhere on their site, and the little sample baggies had no ingredients listed on them.
I know that many people like Meow Cosmetics for their foundations and concealers especially, so I do know that they have good, high quality products. I also bought another collection of eyeshadows from them so I hope to have a better experience with those.
Ultimately, I can't recommend this collection. There are many colors here that look similar to Femme Fatale colors, and FF tends to have higher quality products. Even if you have a thing for shimmery, not-entirely-there shadows I still can't encourage you to buy this -- there are simply other, better options out there.
